Originally, Core wanted Lara's PS2 adventures to stretch to a trilogy of games with a supporting character capable of spawning a spin-off franchise. While the game was panned at launch it still sold in the millions and remains one of the series' most-talked-about games on fansites. Indeed, the intended spin-off character, Kurtis Trent, was meant to have a series of special powers including a Chirugai blade, farsee, power drain and telekinesis. All these were cut, though his negative traits, a relative lack of agility and few weapons, were left in, leading some players bewildered as to why he was included in the first place. Nevertheless, he has a dedicated fansite, the Kurtis Trent Estrogen Brigade (http://www.kteb.net).

Meet PlayStation's most unlikely fan club
Sidenote: Alison says the heart of the KTEB for its 197 members is friendship.
Alison Haynes, aka 'Jordy', is a dedicated member of the KTEB, or Kurtis Trent Estrogen Brigade. For the uninitiated, Kurtis is the (we thought universally despised) male sidekick from Tomb Raider: Angel Of Darkness. The Brigade began life after a flame war in the pro-Kurtis thread on tombraiderforums.com. Alison told us,
There was a bit of scrapping between pro and anti-Kurtis people. Some of it was good natured, some not so much! The new forum evolved into kteb.net,
With different members taking on admin and moderating roles, helping with technical aspects, or contributing stories, art and articles.Ask the fans why they love him and you get a barrage of answers. It's his back story, his cocky attitude, his relationship with Lara, the fact that he's "eye candy"...There are regular meet-ups held in Manchester, with fans coming from as far away as Finland, Canada and Australia. It's also given the KTEB the chance to meet the game's lead writer, Murti Schofield, and Kurtis' voiceactor, Eric Loren. The future for the KTEB?
An international mega-meet planned for this summer in the USA.Check your glaives at the door, boys.
